A metanarrative seems (to me) to be specifically a narrative created and perpetuated by people that, in order to make sense, has to posit certain universal truths. (Eg. all books are evil -> purpoted universal truth, the opinion that everybody who uses books is evil and society should be organized along this fact -> metanarrative) Not the same thing, strictly speaking. But again, i'm no expert, that's just what i got from the text.
