Jesus is God in John, and I don't think he is supposed to be all knowing in the gospels where this event is recorded.

A Christian can still say, No, Jews were only superior in that they worshipped the true god, and gentiles were inferior only because of their pagan culture; Christians are superior to Jews because Jews rejected God's Truest Incarnation in Jesus as Logos, and so on.

Many incidents in the Gospels don't line up with the common portrayal of Jesus in culture today. The dude went into the temple and whipped merchants with a cord. There are some minor stories also that are completely amazing that don't get much reference, such as in Mark when he drives a demon out into a herd of pigs, and they all run off a cliff. The NT Canon was very strict about keeping too cool of things out of the Bible, but you can't just cut Mark, because that's the original one.
