What's the deal with Christopher Tolkien's published works? Are The History of Middle-Earth entries worthwhile, or just a cash grab? How are they distinct from The Silmarillion? How is Beren and Lúthien different from the story of the same that was presented in The Silmarillion? I feel like I'm missing out in not reading them but I'm worried that they're not really legitimate.
