If you write a story with sufficient sheer length and breadth, and make it popular enough, will readers ascribe a deep, overarching meaning and message to it, regardless of effective storytelling skill or structuring? Is the secret to creating compelling themes just adding in so many characters and plot threads that readers assume there must be some meaning to it?

This is the pinnacle of human literature. I still can't fathom how a single mind could come up with such an intricate, deep, and timeless masterpiece. It's a modern Odyssey for sure. Karkat is the Hamlet of our times. What Homestuck lacks in iambs, it makes up for with a multimedia experience full of music that will move the hearts of people for generations on end. This is the work that requires an IQ several standard deviations above the mean to truly appreciate. If you aren't yet aware of Andre Hussie's genius, do yourself a solid and head on over to homestuck.com. And as Vriska would say, haha, "Keep on rolling"!

I will admit that Homestuck is juvenile but at least Andrew Hussie picked a new direction and went in it.
I've tried reading it in its entirety but it's been three years and I'm only 600 pages in. The fanbase is full of dipahits, but i recognize the originality

>It's the first (only?) internet bildungsroman, and that's what it does best imo.

It's not the only one, and it's not the best. Pic related.
