What word or idea means "the opposite of regret"? If such a word or idea exists in other languages that's fine also, but I just don't understand how something so important can't be expressed succinctly in English.

It's something I want to dedicate my life to. To make sure I can look back at every action with pride, without a single feeling of regret, knowing I made the right choice every time.

I see Mersault as less of a person and more of a philosophical position carried out to its utter extreme. Like, you can imagine a person being this detached from life and others and acting in a way that is completely out of the blue (happens all the time), but those types of people usually don't have a blase attitude when it comes to randomly murdering people. They don't act like, "oh the trigger pulled itself." They're usually fully aware of what they're doing when they're doing the deed.

What emotional kernel of truth The Stranger does convey is the sort of flat affect that comes with lacking a genuine purpose in the world. When you're this depressed/lacking in purpose, nothing you do matters. It all becomes this interchangeable, memoryless series of events which will sometimes barely register in your consciousness. When stuck in this mindset, you might be tempted to do something random and destructive just to break the monotony of it all. That fleeting mindset is basically carried out to the extreme in Mersault.

Point is, engage more with life and stop acting like an NPC.

Kierkegaard, Camus, Sartre, Jung, JP, and Evola--who JP totally copies almost verbatim when prognosticating--have yielded no relief from Nietzsches hammer. Is nihilism purely our generations philosophical dilemna to overcome--or not and just accept, or, are there any other writers that I can still read for a possible solution?
