Are there any necessities in poetry/lyrical pieces that need to be included for you to thoroughly enjoy something of that nature, /lit/?

For instance, as far as poetry goes (and, by extension, lyrics), witticisms, self-mockery and generally rambunctious wordings are what keep me engaged in said lit forms. Unless included, I find myself either bored by the piece or remaining unimpressed from an artistic standpoint.

As an example, Morrissey, of The Smiths, who is remarkably self-aware and decently literary, with lines like:

"Now I know how Joan of Arc felt, as the flames rose to her roman nose, and her Walkman started to melt"

And

"There is a quick and easy way" you say
Before you illustrate
I'd rather state:
"I'm not the man you think I am
I'm not the man you think I am"

I could have been wild and I could have
Been free
But Nature played this trick on me

She wants it Now
And she will not wait
But she's too rough
And I'm too delicate

Then, on the sand
Another man, he takes her hand
A smile lights up her stupid face
(and well, it would)

I've lost my faith in Womanhood"

Share and discuss the quirks/ins and outs of your poetic interests, /lit/.
