>oppressive weaponry

this is why no one can take these people seriously

on top of all the forced rhetoric of 'muh patriarchy', 'muh apologies'. even if they are right the victim complex has gone on for so long that it in and of itself is detrimental.

No, hear me out, this was MEANT to be posted here. I am honestly running out of places where I can hold a halfway decent conversation with people. /tv/ is full of idiots. /lit/, despite its pretentiousness, has a shred of intelligence. I need closure for this terrible idea that my girlfriend is suggesting for tonight! Please!

>tfw your parents never had an interest in you
>in fact, they opposed all of your interests
>never forced anything upon me, but also never let me do anything I wanted to do
>tfw now that I can do whatever I want, I do nothing because I don't know how to do things
jelly fag here, I wish my parents either made or let me do things like learn a language. They were actually opposed to me even taking a language class at all. Then we had a trip to france, and they wouldn't let me go even though I could pay for it myself

Earlier media (including literature):
Stories may be elaborate and multi-layered, but are still simpler (even if the setting itself is fantastical in some way), relying on the way plot is handled and not plot itself, such as good characterization, pacing, prose and usage of different tropes and figures.

Modern media (including literature):
Good writing plays a lesser role, instead 'good stories' are considered to be the ones that are not good-written, but rather more elaborate and unexpected. To put it shortly, storytelling relies on plot-twists. They may be good (foreshadowed) or not (non-foreshadowed), but nevertheless a work is considered 'good' if it has enough plot-twists and surprising moments and not primary for the way it is written (even if these twists are 'good').

Would you agree? And if you do, why do you think it happens?

You're right, that pretentious asshole Dr Seuss is always usin' these long-ass college words. Just cause he's a doctor he's gotta try to make the rest of us look stupid?

Not that guy, but I dont understand the whole eyes hurting thing. I've used computers almost my whole life and never had this problem. I'm not a light user, either. I've also never heard of yping being bad for your wrists. Unless you mean carpal tunnel, in which case, all you need to do is sit in a manner that doesnt put pressure on the nerve in your wrist - usually an elevated position, something computer chairs are pretty handy for. There are also wrist cushions for the very purpose of avoiding it.

Heck, I dont know. Maybe its simply because I've used computers for a very long time and Ive simply adapted to it. Each to their own and all that.

And anyways, ignoring all that, I can type MUCH faster than I can write by hand. It also has the advantage of looking good, not that my hand writing is bad but its certainly not calligraphy.

Damn, I havent half rambled on, eh?

So I've been reading Fahrenheit 451 and I'm about a quarter of the way through. So far, its just not that good, not enjoying it. Does it get better? Just asking as sometimes books are like that. Girl with the dragon tattoo springs to mind.

I don't participate in many literary discussions, so please excuse me if I sound ridiculous or my logic is difficult to follow, but are you saying that Gregor becoming a bug allowed us to see that he was wasting his life in the pursuit of providing for others interests and needs and working jobs he found fulfilling. Or perhaps are you saying that Gregor's family were wasting their lives struggling to provide for him after he becomes a bug? The point being that you shouldn't squander your life doing such things, right?

Excuse my ignorance, /lit/. I intend to get into this subject later, but first I wanted to understand the basics, along with inviting you for discussion.

What is absurdism? When they say "the absurd of life" and such, what are they reffering to, exactly?

So I am an Idiot. I set up a Audible account, realized I was an idiot and then, in a fit of even further idiocy, froze it for three months then forgot about it. I just now noticed it siphoning money from my account. Before I cancel I have 6 credits accrued to blow .

tl;dr

I am an idiot, but an idiot with 6 audible credits, and I'd like some suggestions of what to download.

http://www.audible.com

I'm not picky, but I read fantasy and sci-fi for pleasure, and maintain an interest in (pre WWI) history and (light) philosophy when I'm looking for something more nutritious.
