I've heard that she is a weak character because she vowed to give up fighting when she fell in love with Faramir.

Of course, by that point she was crippled and further fighting wasn't going to be necessary anyway, but what do you think /lit/?

So I'm reading The Silmarillion, and I'm digging the hell out of it. Only 50 pages or so in after a few days, but I know I'm in for a ride if I can get through it. So far it's all about the beginnings of things, with no mortal characters or places that aren't simply vague suggestions. I know it's not meant to be read as a novel, but does it get easier to follow as time goes on? There is a lot of "the ____ of _____" going on, with very little telling you what those blanks are supposed to be, besides interesting Elven words indicating which god is doing what and where. They have no meaning, though, it's all kind of lost in this fog of antiquity. No problem with that, though, it's amazing for the tone, but I just hope it gets a little more grounded soon.

I don't want to say "does it get better?" but I do want to ask if it gets easier to follow. I can't wait til I get to the epic acts of bravery and valor that I hear so much about. The Elven Kings of Old, the Blood of Numenor, the eventual defeat of Melkor, all that jazz.

If all else fails, General Tolkien Thread! Let's get some good artwork going, at least.
