>There is definitely depth –the author's an incredibly strong writer, attended yale and trained under some very impressive people, and the book is the product of 10 years of work.
all that education and training wasted, huh. ten years down the train. tough

I read The Savage Detectives on an all-night train from South Carolina to New York. I wasn't the same person when I stepped off the train at Grand Central. To this day, that book and Stoner are the only two works of literature that've made me cry -- not tear up, not get sad, not moodily stare out the window, but cry. I remember reading through the night, into the morning, and finishing the book just as the train slid into northern Virginia, and I saw daybreak near the mountains, and I saw the morning sun over the fields, and I saw the rows and rows of broken-down houses, and I cried. The book seemed to do everything I wanted to do. It seemed to be written for someone like me.

I almost don't want to read any more Bolano because I'm scared it won't approach The Savage Detectives, you know? I don't know. I'm just some faggot sincereposting on /lit/. I have homework to do. Exams next week. Ought to just call you a faggot and crack some joke about jerking off into a whore's mouth and put my butt plug back in and stop bitching. Whatever. Long story short, yes, bolano's our guy
