Anyone finished reading the sequel? I tried years ago, but the cynicism was too thick for me and I dropped it.
When writing it, Miller became disenchanted with the Church (and then took his life in the middle of writing the last book), so it was pieced together by a friend of his.
For those of you who are more careful readers, does it seem like the work of another author? I just assumed it was his and his turn from the Church took away all the pleasure that was within A Canticle.

I agree. I found the first part the most delightful, and the last lackluster.

Three vignettes across time contemplating the role of the Church in a post-apocalypse; as well as meditations on the role of science and technology.

Excellent read.
Unfortunately, I put down the sequel as it had lost so much of it's charm.
Miller Jr. was Catholic at the time of writing 'Canticle'; by 'Horse Woman' (which was incomplete at the time of his death) he lost his faith. Any charm or joy was replaced by an unendearing cynicism.

If you enjoyed it, I can recommend the sequel as well. Doesn't span different eras like the first, and is more focused on a singular story.

Is the sequel to Canticle good or no?

There have been quite a few threads about a Canticle for Leibowitz recently.
I read it over a year ago, and liked it quite a bit and was wondering if the sequel that Miller partially wrote before offing himself (Saint Leibowitz and the Wild Horsewoman) is any good?

It's pretty good, not as good as the first one, but good.
