It's kind of positive in a "people should read more" kind of way, but it's always easier to demand that from others than do it yourself. People read very little or not at all, but they're always ready to accuse others of not reading enough.

I don't meet any hardcore anti-intellectual stance regularly. Some of the opinions I read on /lit/ - fiction is useless, humanities is a waste of time, etc - were absolutely alien to me before I started browsing this board.

What is kind of unusual is that well-read people here tend to be on the Right. It's a whole status thing. If you're college educated and you want to be known as one of the "smart ones" you must bullshit your way through token Enlightenment authors and some Nietzsche etc. It's part of the mid-to-late 20s mandatory culture, just like in the US and the UK you're probably expected to care about certain bands or directors.

I know this is probably not the right board to ask this, but it seems too vague to be asked at /sci/ and to specific to be asked at any social/random board.

Anyway, I remember a time ago we had a thread about language learning where someone recommended a few good programs such as Anki and Rosetta Stone

They've been so fucking useful to me (Anki not only to languages, but for pretty much all my studies) that I just want to know what other methods for learning/memorization you guys use. Be it a software, a website, whatever. I feel like I'm totally outside the digital era when it comes to learning and studying, so help me get with the times here

What the hell are you supposed to talk about with girls anyway? Like shoes or something? Girls like shoes, right?

Well, as long as the kids are reading again, I got no complaints.
