I am not sorry. This was the most informative, the most interesting, most complete work of non-fiction I ever read. All the other ones now seem bland, conformist, midwit. Sad, never again I will read something that packs the story of Siddharta Gautama, that puts particular pharaons of Egypt into the plot, that tells the history of Rome, about the Celts, about the Americas, about the Germans fighting against the Romans, about Greece during the Hellenic era, about virtue and malice, about literature, about the great conquerors of history, it must be said, not all of them were white.

This is the only book you need to read- and reread eternally.

I am not sorry to have read in my life a sort of modern age book of all things. An eloquent and self-critical writer, full of references, the choice between what makes philosophically thoughtful and what isn't, no embellishments, no optimism, no profit, commandment and politics being equally impossible—and still, for all this, a cheerful outlook, a kind of domestic well-being of the most primitive kind. But this is what succeeds in having a critical and intellectual mind and being able to engage and criticize the opinion of others.

Reading this opus magnum was too much of an undertaking. Never underestimate the consequences of reading about a non-fiction topic because it once was casually interesting. It's not worth the losses.
