This is bait, but the best of English literature had a continental tinge to it. The best English writers were not monolinguals, but oftentimes polyglots. If you like Milton, you're reading Latin. If you like Chaucer, you're reading French. And so on. The peaks of English verse have their roots in the Provencal tradition. The peaks of its prose have their roots in Rome. Purely English writers (monolinguals and those who never read outside the anglo-sphere) narrowed their horizons and thereby their art, hence their relative obscurity.

Languages with good literature in them: Sanskrit, Latin, Ancient Greek, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Russian, Portuguese, and many others.

Of course, those too lazy or stupid to learn another language disparage other languages and despite not knowing other languages claim those languages are inferior in terms of literature. Embarrassing.
