When I'm nervous I talk about nothing but animals and western cartoons. When I'm not nervous I still mostly talk about animals and western cartoons.

Sorry if you guys get a bunch of these, I'm not really a regular.

I don't really fancy myself a writer or a poet, but I wrote this a few years ago. I thought I'd lost it during a hard drive crash, but I just found it and a few other things on a little old thumb drive. Thought it'd be nice to get some opinions on it. In return, baby badgers! Also, general post your poems and offer criticism thread?


"Two Monsters"

I once came across two monsters
Living alone, in a meadow,
By a wood, on a mountain.

I found the first monster stunning
Larger than any bull elephant,
And twice as strong.

It persisted in breaking and bruising
Anyone and everything around -
- Quite by accident.

The second hurt even to look at:
Entirely covered in spikes and quills,
Encumbered by vast teeth and claws.

Any unfortunate nearby being (or object)
Would soon find itself shredded
Albeit, unintentionally.

Naturally, the monsters spent much of the time
Bruised or bloodied (or both)
By the other.

And though they could only ever hope
To lessen the pain and wounds
In which they inflicted,

I have never seen two soft-skinned lovers
Treat one another with such tenderness
Or love.
