Damn, that was a pretty good story.

English isn't my first language but I've never hated a writing style more than the one in this book, there's just something so repulsive about it. Plus the story is boring and retarded.

Trying to get into reading books. I don't really know anything about what qualifies as "good" but so far I'm enjoying this. I find it simple enough to get going.

Obviously, travel is a pleb genre, but have any travelers ever risen above their station and written anything worth reading?

So /lit/ I rewatched Apocalypse Now which prompted a reread of Heart of Darkness. What other literature deals with similar themes of humanity and loss like this?

I read it at the beginning of the year and wasn't able to take much away from it, seemed like Conrad was definitely a skilled writer but none of the content resonated with me. What kind of value did you guys see?

Why did Marlow idolize Kurtz so much in the end? We only heard about how awesome he is from other people, all he did in the story is crawl around and be sick. Also what was the significance of the Nubian Queen with all the jewelry?

I fucking love this book though, the excessively descriptive prose and autistically long sentences were very pleasant to read.

Basically, sometime around year 11 I realised that literature (specifically novels and poetry) are actually extremely interesting and well thought out. However, I spent the previous 11 years of school thinking it was cool not to read so I have problems keeping with a book. I can generally read and enjoy about half of it, but then, like going to the gym, I just put it off day after day until I forget.

Anyways, long story short, how do you guys finish books?

Only books I've finished in years are: Pride and Prejudice, Heart of Darkness, and The Reader.

Taking AP lit this year. We're reading The Awakening, Heart of Darkness, Hamlet, and Candide by Voltaire. Should I expect a good year? Are these /lit/ approved?
