I've been messing with this idea for a book or graphic novel for a while now.

A war general with an immortal body lends his strength to nations all over the world in a worldwide war. He's infallible and has never lost a battle, and because of this, every nation in the world considers him an invaluable boon to their armies. Despite this, the general is universally hated the world over because he's seemingly fickle and has no loyalty to any nation. He very easily leaves and joins armies like it's nothing. No one knows why he does this.

The reason why is unknown to anyone but the general and the person he seeks, a man with an immortal soul, his adjutant. The adjutant dies and is reborn countless times, always spawning where there is conflict, and thus forcing the general to chase after him again. The adjutant spends much of the book celebrating the general as a harbinger of death, bringer of destruction, and planning his death early on in his life so that he won't grow old and "ugly", while the general spends all his time simply trying to convince the adjutant to settle down and leave the warring to the mortals, and simultaneously searching for an end to both their lives.

I dunno. It looked good in my head. I had a short story written out for it and it was pretty good, but I lost it when my hard drive crashed last summer.
