I haven't read all of Shakespeare's sonnets in a good while. I'll just post a few of my favorites in reply to this thread. They're fun to revisit once in awhile. The only acceptable interpretation of the sonnets as a whole is that Shakespeare was attempting to write more realistic verse by leveling the idealism of traditional Petrarchan sonnets.

As for other sonneteers, do Spenserian stanzas count? They're excellent stuff. Also, any bongs reading, you should visit Arundel Castle in Sussex; I believe a member of the Howard family introduced the sonnet to England.
