I keep fucking meaning to read The Ballad Of The White Horse. I always hear it's the best thing Chesterton ever wrote. I guess I need to knuckle down and read it.

The poem is Chesterton's too, right? It's easy to forget how talented he was at doing many different things with words.

Chesterton isn't right about everything, but his zinger about how Nietzsche's philosophy is "a philosophy of weak nerves" has always felt potent to me. When you look at Neetch through that perspective it really does seem like all his writing about strength, masters and slaves, self-determination, etc. is wishcasting by a man who was always rather frail and sickly and timid. When you turn Nietzsche's own technique of psychoanalyzing philosophers through their philosophy back AT him, it's not a pretty picture.

Good posts. Yeah, Chesterton is not a philosopher and anyone who treats him as such is missing the point of him.

His essays are great, as actually, are his poems. I keep meaning to read The Ballad Of The White Horse, which is supposedly spectacular.
