Ready Player Two – Ernest Cline

I’ll be real: I didn’t hate this as much as I thought I was going to. Don’t get me wrong, I didn’t enjoy it and I’m very happy to be finished with it, but it didn’t make me want to skin myself alive like I anticipated. Its plot was weak and took about 100 pages to get going. However, the transition from the first book to the second book wasn’t as jarring as I had expected, since I had never read the first book. The guy who assigned me this book made sure of that. I’m sure I missed a lot of details, but nothing earth-shattering that couldn’t be figured out based on context clues. The plot revolves around a type of virtual reality headset called the ONI, which allows users to immerse themselves in fully virtual environments and directly experience other peoples’ experiences through means of a brain-recording device within the ONI. However, when an AI of a former ONI developer goes rogue, things go downhill for the protagonist Wade and his crew of gamer grrls. Ernest Cline’s prose is easy to read, which made what could’ve been a completely unreadable disaster a lot easier to get through. On the other hand, there’s the content of this book. Absolute nightmare. Every single page of its 366 or so pages is layered in 80’s and 90’s references I truly don’t give a shit about. It’s all in there: dozens of 80’s films, multiple chapters dedicated to a virtual world based on the musician Prince, hell even a few chapters dedicated to an obscure arcade game called Sega Ninja. Not to mention, the wokeshit drips out of the book, with gems like a genderbending transwoman character (and of course they’re a speedrun Youtuber!) and a sassy black main character who takes every chance she can to rehash the same done-to-death criticisms of whitey. If I had to sum up this book in a picture, it’d be this one. It’s an accelerationist nightmare from the point of view of a consoomer. Never cared for anprim ideology and still don’t, but assuming you aren’t an end-stage Nostaglia Critic stan or a true escapist, this book is more effective than whatever Ted must have to say to make you think the Industrial Revolution and its consequences were a mistake. What made this especially jarring for me is that the book I read before this was a book of Native American just-so stories, called “Coyote Stories”. Going from low-tech, mystical explanations of why chipmunks have stripes on their fur to hundreds of pages worth of trite references to video games I’d never played and movies I’d never watched created quite the juxtaposition. Surprisingly, Cline kind of realizes this artificiality, as there is a reference to “simulacra and simulation” at the very end, which came totally out of left field for me.

Seriously, the bullying against accelerationist members of this community is getting way out of hand, especially since accels are some of the biggest contributors, have the highest social intelligence, and are the most involved in this board. Its not just "memes" or "banter", its vicious attacking, and regardless of intentions it does demean people and hurt feelings. I can't say I'm the only accelerationist who finds it hard to take pride in his own Sinoism after having years of constant and needless attacks defaming my speed from insecure losers here. Why not bully Christians or Marxists? Do they not have much more to be ashamed of than our superior philosophy? Guenonfags and schizoposters get bullied less than us and yet we are the purest philosophy in the world.

Like when its not just banter, when a meme is repeated over and over again, repeated systematically, it eventually becomes a truth irregardless of the intentions in repeating it. And that isn't just jokes any more then, then its harmful!

Would you call an accelerationist a "tranny"(not true at all) to her face? Would you say to a kind, peaceful and scientific salt of the earth Chinese woman that they are "slower" than Western men? Would you say those words to your fellow futurist brethren? Are you starting to feel ashamed now? You fucking decelerationists?

Your destroying philosophy, your dividing capital against itself, your doing the opposite of what you claim to support when you engage in this incredibly abhorrent behaviour. So I encourage you to stop now.
