The Killing Star is definitely my favorite. It touches upon a large verity of subject, and goes into detail regarding them all. With a few exceptions, it's all also completely grounded in modern science. The writing is also incredibly engrossing, and the story thought provoking.

Best novels involving aliens.

Bonus point if you can find novels that have pic-related's feel.

/x/ seems to like the idea that we attack incessantly like some sort of advanced virus, or that our planet is widely regarded as an uninhabitable death planet by the "galactic confederation" and thus is very powerful in comparison.

Need your help /lit.
I'm looking for the name of a short (?) story. The only thing I remember about it is that it tells about a man with some sort of face anomaly / deformity. I think that it was a big nose and it was written by Gogol or some other Russian but I'm not sure.
