Pretty much any version, I'm KJV simply because its the most referenced but that one version with all the research and footnotes was cool if you're into that (I didn't get much mileage out of it but that was years ago).
I don't think its necessarily sacrilegious to say that The Bible isn't particularly well-written; its tedious as hell to read in anything other than small doses for me and even then sometimes I get stuck on entire passages dedicated to some fuckhead's lineage (i.e. Jacob) or some obvious propaganda about circumcision.
