I understand what you mean.

As institutions, "universities" are no better than schoolhouses or seminaries. However, they attract intelligent yet hedonistic people by virtue of their sheer resources, and this combination allows them (universities) to maintain a monopoly on esoterica.

I go a step further and advocate individual reclamation of all worthwhile tomes from college libraries. That is, steal them.

What's wrong with being a dilettante?

How would you define a dilettante?

That was me that recommended The Campaigns of Alexander and Roberts' Napoleon.

Both good reads, I enjoyed Napoleon's biography a bit more personally since I have a bit of knowledge from that period.

Campaigns did get me to start rereading the Aeneid again

>Okay then smart guy
>school's literature related stuff?
>study good stuff
>good stuff
>What's up with that?

Go back to reddit. You're on a literature related book, and you have no appreciation for Shakespeare, but enjoyed the movie.

You are a plebeian, in the absolute definition of the term.

/lit/ were you granted the Classical education during your childhood/college years?

Growing up I learned all the Greek mythological stories, along with a large chunk of Roman history as well.

The thing is though, when I'm looking to have kids in a few years I don't think it'll possible for my kids to get this kind of education.

Is there an accepted syllabus of education to cultivate an educated person, or is it mainly just the Romans with some poetry in there?

Does /lit/ listen to audiobooks when commuting and then pick back up in the reading?

Or on another note any /lit/ approved podcasts? Ideally stuff on Romantic era writing

Where does /lit/ like to read? Considering spending the day tomorrow and reading at a Starbucks.

I would do a bookstore but they always think I'm shoplifting if I go there to read and try to walk back out with my book.
