Still a flawed translation of Wagner's-notoriously-difficult-to-translate text but it's the best. The Ring is pretty much Wagner's only poem that gets any academic attention literary-wise so everyone who doesn't speak German is in the dark on the value of the translations of his other works. Very few of his essays and books have been translated by anyone other than William Ashton Ellis, a heavily flawed Victorian translation of his complete works (which make some of his harder works practically unreadable), Judaism in Music, The Artwork of the Future and Beethoven are his only essays that I know have been translated since. I recommend starting with The Destiny of Opera, a lecture, which is a concise retelling of some of his main thoughts on art old and new. After which Judaism in Music, Modern (a continuation of Judaism), What is German? and On Poetry and Composition are some of his best to start with.
