I think what’s especially overlooked with Thoreau is how much he loves ancient Greece. Read the Iliad and Odyssey to get a lot of references in Walden and his other work. The ant f
war scene is quite a decent recreation of the Iliad’s style and rhythm.

Hello friends, I finished reading a few books on this list. I would highly recommend "The One Straw Revolution" even though it's not on that chart; it's a book about natural farming that incorporates a lot of Japanese folk wisdom. It was comfy. I think the Old Man and the Sea and Hōjōki could both be added to that list as well, even though they are not the European style of nature writing that usually makes it on those charts.

I was wondering if anyone could recommend me environmental books of a more practical sort, perhaps something that could let me explore what sort of career options/lifestyles are available for an /out/ist like myself. I liked the farming books a lot, but I can't see myself becoming a farmer with how awful the soil is where I live, not to mention all the other difficulties. I'd love to read a book about a park ranger or something, or maybe someone that works for an environmental protection group. Pls no politics frens, I just want to discuss some of the comfy everyday life experiences people have outside, and what are the best books about them.
