I think thtat there are some interesting parallels between the two books. Both explore themes of solitude, depression, moral corruption/loss of innocence. Also, both characters had something going for them in the future, a seemingly achievable goal that they would be able to accomplish, but circumstances and external and internal factors inhibited them from doing so. Also, the ways in which each author explores the theme of suicide is quite similar stylistically. I think it would be interesting to discuss how a male character vs female character percieve the world around them through a distorted lense and how that affects the interpersonal relationships they have. For instance, both characters are unable to form meaningful or substantial bonds between their family/friends/lovers. What does /lit/ think of thes comparisons, are there any more?

Why doesn't Anime try to take notes from Japanese literature? Its so simplistic compared to it.
