Have any of you ever published a book? Or know anything about the topic?

What can you tell me about it? I feel like I could write a pretty excellent book, and if I did I'd like to publish or make some money from it.

How difficult is it to find a publisher? How's the pay? What was the book about? Was it written to sell, or was it written for your own satisfaction? Did they demand a significant amount of editing? Ect, ect.

I'm not so naive as to think that I could make it as a professional writer, but if I went to the trouble of writing a book I'd like to at least have it published - especially considering the amount of trash on the shelves these days. If I made money from it, great. If not, I'd still enjoy writing it.
