name that book time!

trying to remember the name of this young adult science fiction book. Most of the plot is pretty hazy but here's what I remember:

- kid finds a blue portal (in the desert maybe?)

- enters it and wakes up in jungle, possibly an alternate dimension or maybe another planet

- learns to survive while looking for the exit portal, eventually masters wilderness

- finally finds portal and returns to earth (winds up in a mall maybe?)

that's all I got, sorry. Anyone else remember this book? It was awesome and I want to reread it.

I'm not sure what you mean by that? Rand makes as much of an attempt as an philosopher can. Even Descartes had to compromise when he realized that, outside of his own existence, he absolutely could not be sure of anything.

In short, ALL philosophy MUST be based on personal interpretation.

Honestly, I think the real problem with Objectivism isn't with Objectivists, but with those assholes at FOX news and the New Republican Party, that "quote" Rand without bothering to read any of her work. It might be funny if it wasn't so sad. Most of the people who pretend to be Objectivists now are, in action, the rotters and parasites she warned against.

I want to read some Nietzsche. Where do I start?
