speaking of sword and sorcery, what do ya'll think of Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser? been reading the first book and I think its quite good.

I’ve read some sword and sorcery novels I’ve loved, but I think you’re right short stories are where the genre shines. I think it lends itself the more personal, smaller scale form of storytelling that distinguishes Sword and Sorcery.

I’d recommend Kull if you haven’t read it and the Red Sonja series by Richard Tierney and David Smith. Smith and Tierney aren’t quite as good as Howard but the books are very comfy.
Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser are also good, but closer to more traditional fantasy than Kull, Kane, or Sonja.

Currently reading The Three of Swords, a Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser collection, on weekends and Night Winds, a Kane short story collection, during the week. Highly recommend both of them.

Presumably it was one of the skills he got taught in the Cidatel. If torturers are that close to their clients then they have to know how to defend themselves.
Terminus Est is the best sword.
