I can only speculate but someone mentioned that his dad was very moralizing and he had a very weird, possibly abusive relationship with his mother. They set him up to be an overachiever and he was clearly suffering from imposter syndrome. Seems like he wanted PK to one-up everything he'd written before then add in the fact that he stopped taking his meds and it's no surprise that he spiraled out of control.

It's kinda sad to think that if he simply kept doing drugs and watching TV all day, he probably would've lived longer.
