How do you write serious fiction?
I can’t seem to get beyond genre literature and when I try to think about real-life characters and situations I only end up with banal and boring ideas.

I'm smarter than almost everyone I personally know but much stupider than anyone I actually respect or admire.

I read some philosophy and almost went neurologically insane, what philosophy it was isn't exactly relevant.

Point is I was trying so hard to really understand and experience it personally, that I began to think I could envision these thoughts as complex 3D objects I could manipulate in my brain (I've had similar episodes of this weird neuroticism before). As the text proceeded the 3D model kept folding in on itself and revealing paradoxes.

Eventually it became too much and I was getting very scared at it getting out of control, so I stood up to go inside (I was reading outside, on a summer night), but that's when I realized something was wrong with my kinesthetic sense, some kind of derealization or something but I felt like I wasn't my body anymore, only piloting it, and clumsily.

But the scariest part happened at a certain point when I was inside and I completely froze, I had just bent down to get something, but I literally had trouble sending the instruction to my muscles to stand back up. Felt like trying to punch in a dream. I was crouching there, in my kitchen, at night, just trying to summon the will to stand up.

After this event I also developed a stutter which lasted only a couple days.

The text was Soren Keirkaguard, but I couldn't even tell you what that shit was about, be a good person I guess.

Stop reading classics

there are no profound books, only midwit readers

Before I read a book: I begin by inspecting the front and back, taking note of one or more authors. I read the back or inner flap in full for the gist of what the book is about. Then, I study the table of contents as to determine the structure of the book. I ask myself: is this practical? Theory? Self-help? Fiction? After a quick skim of the first 3 pages I’ll have a good idea whether this is the one for me or not. At this point I take a picture of it and download it for free when I get home. This is the point of no return, the book must be finished. I jot down a reading plan based on the number of pages. After I finish I write a few paragraphs on my thoughts. I don’t read books that waste my time or that don’t teach me something useful.
