Like someone said earlier, I'm also switching off between a few different books- Steppenwolf by Herman Hesse, A Second-hand Life by Charles Jackson, The Acid House (short story collection) by Irvine Welsh, and Doomed by Chuck Palahniuk.
I like the whole switching-off thing for two reasons-
1) the variety allows my internal dialogue to remain my own (have you ever noticed that if you read only one author at a time, you start thinking the way that that person writes?);
2) as an aspiring writer myself, it guarantees that I don't find myself accidentally imitating another author's style (see item 1).
