recognizing the common truth encountered repeatedly throughout time by Buddhism, Hinduism, Jung and Psychoanalysis in general, Kierkegaard, Nietzsche, Dostoyevsky, Thomas Mann, Houellebecq, to name a few off the top of my head, this common truth being you can only find salvation in the consciousness that allows you to see the despair of a life lived unconscious of the forces that control you.
