Am I the only person who hates this classist bitch-cunt writer? She fucken sucks and her literature drips with inbred bourgeoisie hen clucking. Horrid oppressive bitch loves child labour and wishes it were still a thing.

I am quite new to lit and proper reading in general and I see a lot of hate towards Jane Austen, why is this?

Okay, so not 100% /lit/ related, but this comes up a lot in literature.

So in 18th and 19th century novels, women (and occasionally men) constantly faint whenever anything shocking happens. Was this a purely literary convention, or was fainting actually more common in the past? And if it was, is there some reason that caused it/why people don't constantly faint now?

pic tangentially related

What does /lit/ think about Jane Austen?

Never read anything from her, but heard she got a bunch of daddy issues. Is that true?
