It is far more relevant then 1984 which gets constantly quoted.

"You don't have to burn books to destroy a culture. Just get people to stop reading them."

Translated from Bradbury: go fuck yourself, m8.

What does /lit/ think of Ray Bradbury?

So I read this again recently and have a question. Did captain Beatty really want to die or was Montag just rationalizing it in his head? If so, why did he want to die?

Also what did Montag's last little quip at Beatty mean? "We never burned right."

Ray Bradbury was not criticizing a top-down exercise in oppression, but pressure from the censorious attitudes and desire for intellectual simplicity of the general public

The theme itself was not Nazi Germany style book burnings but how average citizens' desire for dumbed down soundbites and an agreeable message should be of much greater concern

Hi guys,

I've recently been trying to decide on books to do a dissertation on, what do you think of my selection so far?

1) Fahrenheit 451
2) Brave New World
3) Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?

I'm going for a future dystopia vibe. I've also been toying with replacing Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep or Brave New World with 1984, what do you think would be the best ones to do an essay on?
