Not to my knowledge. A universal approach to ethics is necessary for a society to critique itself the way the contemporary west does, and that type of ethic isn't really widespread in any other culture.

There's satirical Japanese literature and art but it's still nothing like, "how can we possibly gloat about the Mongol fleet drowning in that storm, how dreadfully Nipponcentric!"

First off, we're talking about pleb vs. patrician which is really a matter of social class, so whether it makes you smart or not, anyone who went to an Ivy rubbed elbows with the global elite. It sounds like your friend is either threatened by someone unmasking this, even though it's been talked about for millenia, or is so committed to valuing male power and sexuality over female that she can't see this. As someone else has mentioned, female anatomy is also appealing to both men and women (college lesbianism isn't just rebellion), while male genitalia is seen as sorta ugly by both.

My ex and I read very different types of lit, but could tell each other about what we read and draw comparisons because we share a lot of background via ye olde liberal artes edumacation.

She read a lot I couldn't because she was fluent in Japanese, Mandarin, English and French. I could tell her about reading in Latin, Greek and English.

I used to hook up with a girl who always wanted to talk about Hamlet because she was taking a course on Shakespeare and Hamlet is my favourite of his plays.

I can handle a girl having pleb taste though. It's nice to have an intellectual partner but I find it just as easy to treat the dumber girls like children. Just depends on the girl.
