Honestly you can easily see how these inspired stuff like LOTR, GoT, WoT, DnD, pretty much all of modern fantasy. To a lesser extent I think it somehow influenced a lot of anime too.
Homer's works are great and are worth reading by anyone. But lets be real, you don't NEED to read these works to understand greek philosophy. Homer is worth reading for a plethora of other reasons but being preliminary material to the Pre-Socratics and Plato isn't one of them. Can someone explain this meme to me? And don't get me started on how some say you need to read The Epic Of Gilgamesh to read Homer. Gilgamesh is kino on all accounts but there's really no reason to consider it necessary for understanding pic related.

The moments with the Gods make Iliad and Odyssey great. Honestly the relations between them is just really fun in both. Just interesting to see these characters interacting. They're all like archetypes. Does anyone else get that feeling?
