Most of Allisons scenes were removed from the final cut. Ultimately she felt invisible and ignored, especially by her family, so she acted out hoping someone would acknowledge her. The transformation was her coming to bloom as a person as soon as she was validated

I'm not so sure. In the final scene as Sheedy is leaving the school after transforming she still retains her weird mannerisms. She didnt just become a princess like Molly Ringwald. She also reaffirmed to Ringwald that she likes all the black clothes and makeup. The makeover was just a way to express that hidden underneath it all there was a whole person there
