All of writers who circlejerk around death are evil motherfuckers. They should be banned. Reminding people of death is really fucking cruel. They impose their extreme neurotic fears on the healthy individuals and thus also ruin their lives. Imposing fear of death in people is one of the worst crimes against humanity. Fuck le humanist Tolstoy for writing A Confession and Death of Ivan Ilyich, he was the left nut of devil. See how he grabbed life by its balls and still the giant fell, went into mental paralysis when he developed the extreme fear of death. That's how degenerate fear of death is, it is like a terminal illness. Nobody can cope with it if they have truly gazed into its depth. Not even the most masculine titans like Tolstoy can cope. Imagine what sort of hell limp-wristed meek weak hearted fags like me go through when the fear of death start developing in their bodies in its true intensity because they have read some neurotic bullshit of some evil neurotic. Inflicting fear of death is a crime and a healthy society should do everything in its power to ban all literature which deals with a fear of death.

I think at the end of the day, there are only a few fundamental stories to tell. Less than thirty probably. The real challenge is retelling a story in a unique way, that is engaging. Complexity or simplicity are empty categories. What matters if its gripping. And not all stories and styles are going to appeal to everyone. I feel like OP has some sort of "it's popular therefore good" assumption built into it, which makes it a truly plebeian take. Shit like War and Peace is pretty simple really. There isn't much plot, just people going to war and talking. But it's complex in that there is a lot of simple things happening and there is a quality to the ideas it communicates.
