Best shit I've ever read. All you schizo posters will agree.

And the companion album "Haunted" by Poe is equally based.

Oy

Recently purchased this book. Enjoying it so far but I can't help but feel like im reading it wrong. I have been reading it page to page, usually following one story for about 20 pages then going back 20 pages and reading the next story until im caught up(story isnt the word im thinking of. If you read this boon you know it switches back and forth between multiple perspectives of the house and different characters).

It skips around it seems and im around 120 pages in and dont quite see the appeal yet. Its interesting, dont get me wrong. I feel like im missing something though.

Pic related

Is House of Leaves brilliant and intimate or pretentious and bloated?

I thought I had just read an emotional novel, but I can’t tell if I can recommend it to anyone with how much it asks from the reader

House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski. The book is a very interesting delve into postmodern takes on the malleability of common literary form, so he tries to make the reader's mind bend alongside the narrator's by playing with pacing and spacing. Most people either cult-tier love the book or don't finish it.

I'm currently working on three main projects, but they're all in the editing phase, so I've not been producing any new written content lately. It discourages me to do so, but I'm starting to understand how crucial careful revision can be.

I'm currently writing a short story based in a surrealist post apocalyptic tale about obedience and belonging in society, a creative essay about how the introduction of the internet and constant connection has changed my mindset and the interactions of those around me as well as the greater problems of the world, and I am about to release the first chapter of a serial short fiction project based on a dark fantasy version of post-colonial America on its own website.

Keep grinding boys! The only way to make it is to focus everyday and never give up! One thing I'm starting to learn about career writing is that you can't expect to rely on it and will have to accept the fact that you need to love the profession just for the act of doing it or you wont succeed.

What have been your favorite books on the subject of writing or just prose that has helped you create your own unique style, /lit/? For me, House of Leaves is a clear influence in my creative nonfiction work, but I'm also trying to implement more of the sort of grounded prose that you find in books like King's. In all of the workshops and classes I attend, I get the same feedback saying that my pieces play a lot with elevated language and it gets hard to understand the meaning behind them. What are your main problems, /lit/, and how are you striving to get past them?

It's House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski.

It was my introduction to contemporary postmodern literature and a gift from my older brother. I first became interested in writing through horror literature like Lovecraft and King when I was in high school, so the offbeat horror of HoL really caught my eye. The spin on the classic 'false document' trope was rather inventive too, being a book about a 'book' about a documentary. Really, though, I think Danielewski's variation of prose to create pacing and play with the reader's mind is my favorite part. The constant use of footnotes and displaced text creates a strain on the reader that almost feels as though its meant to mimic the delve into insanity of the narrators.

Anybody else like Danielewski? I've not read any of his other books, but I've heard that I would like the Fifty Year Sword, and his seven part novel seems rather intriguing as a concept.

House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski.

I just think it's really neat. There's a lot of developments into postmodern horror that I haven't seen done anywhere else.

As subjective as this feeling is, can anyone recommend me some books that invoke a sense of wonder and depth while hiding sinister undertones? Pic related and a book called The Tunnel seem to give me those vibes and I'd like to find more. Doesn't have to be post-modern.

House of Leaves by Mark Z Danielewski.

The Navidson Record in the book is about an extradimensional space in his house that is an endless black labyrinth.

Is this book really worth all the hype it deserves? Or is it just Edgelord: The Novel?
