The Amish need out-Amished, honestly. I was sad to read in a book by Donald Kraybill that they are actually somewhat selective in their use of what they use and do not use. For example some use pneumatic and hydraulic forms of power, have telephones in the barn, etc. They are certainly thinking down the right lines, but they are very tangled up in technique like all of us.

The Amish shouldn’t be romanticized but they’re much better off than us in many, many ways
