Not her but my favorite book is BotNS, I've read it fully over 9 times, I've read all 7 books of the Second Apocalypse and reread parts of them many times, I've read all that means Middle Earth from Tolkien and honestly I only hate the way Bakker writes women, I fucking hate it. Doesn't take away from the value of Second Apocalypse since it's a beautiful work and some of the best parts in literature I've read from him. Still, all the women he writes are dirty fucking whores, there's nothing half as wholesome as Inrau in all the 7 books. Don't tell me he couldn't have made Mimara anything other than a prostitute who had sex with Achamian the first night they spend together. Come on.
As for BotNS, I have no issue because I recognize the writer as being Severian, and simply put Severian is kind of a simpleton. I respect Gene Wolfe very much for creating such a compelling character. I like Severian very much and I recognize why he says the thing he says about the women he encounters.
As for Tolkien, I actually don't have any issues with Tolkien at all and LotR is among my top 5 favorite books/series of all time. I think he is solid, and anyone who says "well there aren't enough stronk women in his books" is legit a braindead turd. Simple as.
