Tarkovsky talks about it a bit in his book and his general conclusion is that film is still trying to be literary instead of evolving into its own thing. At this point I think film is having trouble finding a direction, the same as literature, and to try and compare the two is a retards game.

This is a long shot but I'm trying to remember the title or author of a sci fi book I read a long time ago. I can remember very few details but here they are:

genre: science fiction
Written in 1950s
short book, maybe 300 pages.
the cover art depicted something like a robotic gauntlet or fist.

the only parts of the plot I can remember are that it was set in the future and society had become ultra consumerist, so much so that commercial consumption was like a religion. Instead of going to church, people would go to "store" and buy items that they didn't need, such as clothing and the lower the quality the better. that was just a small peripheral thing and i cannot recall what the overall plot was. Might have had something to do with a kind of arena fighting with androids or someting like that, i cannot recall.

If anybody has read this book and remembers that little piece, I will sacrifice goats in your honor in exchange for the title or author.
