Maybe I'm missing the point here, is Hugo trying to say something by repeatedly going on tangents and sucking on Paris' dick (with a really dull prose I'd say, Les Mis had way better imagination and flow than this) or he's just padding the story for the paycheck?

So picked up this book a while ago. Is it good or no? I haven't read it yet.

>Read
Foucault's Pendulum. Very much enjoyed it, had some great moments. Not sure if the ending message was trite or profound.

>Reading
The Call of the Wild. Good solid prose, but London is describing violence a bit too grandly for my tastes.

>Going to read
Pic related. Have a feeling this will take a while.

just finished The Hunchback of Notre Dame by Victor Hugo.
Not at all what I expected. To be honest the only idea I had of the story was that of the Disney movie.
The novel was quite dark and much more violent than I expected. The central theme seems to be that looks can be deceiving.
Without giving the plot away I will say that I enjoyed Hugo's writing style. The ending was quite shocking, but in retrospect, fitting.
At its conclusion the novel put me in a funk, not sure if I am elevated, inspired or depressed.

I usually take my time with novels but I went through this in just a few sittings. Spent a lot of time just imagining and trying to recreate the scenes.

Rereading it now and holy shit how did I ever do that. Fucking Book 3 is a goddamn architecture rant. Such a roadblock.
