i think we downplay the importance of the reader in the process of reading
what do you all think of subjective experience of literature?

i think i take an incredibly subjective experience from books, it is as if i am coauthroing it as it goes. the themes i notice seem to appear everywhere, external points of reference find their way in, people and places insofar as the book leaves them up to interpretation take form and feeling of things i know. it is all intensely personal to the point where i'm not convinced my infinite jest for example is the same as will be read by anyone else. i find this moreso than with the other arts because storytelling in literature leaves so much to the reader.

i find this kind of terrifies me.

I would never punch someone who can give a photographer such a stare. Did he have PTSD?
