I'm sorry Spongebob, but Gary's with me now, you had your chance and you failed. You have to stop living in the past. Face it Spongebob, you're only hurting yourself, it's what Gary wants, and what Gary wants is me! Right Gary? Huh?

So /lit/, what book have you read that, to this day, you are ashamed to admit?

To start off, I'd say Lolita, by Vladimir V. Nabokov (but it felt so good).

ITT: morals in literature

>For me, a work of fiction exists insofar as it affords me what I shall bluntly call aesthetic bliss, that is in a sense of being somehow, somewhere connected with other states of being where curiosity, tenderness, kindness, ecstacy is the norm ~ Vlad Nabokov

Other argue that books that glorify immoral ideas should not be allowed to exist.

For instance, lolita is no doubt a phenomenal book, but it brings up some rather deplorable ideas

Can a piece of literature exist without a moral?

Please present your thoughts on the issue

Beautiful prose. Humbert is a moron but he's not a monster just because he happens to like little girls. Lolita regardless if she never met Humbert she would have grown up to become a top rate bitch.

Up to chapter 25. It's become so cringe-worthy.

How did I get trolled into this?

Lolita is the most recent book I have finished. I thought it was a fantastic story. Very humorous yet terribly sad. Understanding the mind of a manipulative pedophile was quite a neat learning experience.

Why did Nabokov write about pedophilia?

Hey /lit/,

I'm looking for novels that deal with nymphs and/or nymphets. It's kind of a tough criteria to search for, without ending up in all the crappy "erotica" fiction.

What I'm looking for is novels with men who run into females who are all for tons of sex. Like the part where Nabokov describes his first sexual encounter with Lolita in the motel -- that kind of mood. I want the women to want it and the men to desperately fall for them in total abandon.

Any suggestions?

Hello, /lit/, do you know where I could find this edition of Lolita from a UK distributer? Amazon's (UK) editions are not my style, and for a popular book, don't seem to have that many copies... I would buy from Amazon.com, but I'm sure there's a UK version of this cover art.

did this book changed your impression about young teen girls?,(I'm not talking about children, but young teens let's say 12/13 to 15).
Did you feel identified with Humbert Humbert thoughts?

I really hate this cover of Lolita. It just really rubs me the wrong way and I think Nabokov wouldn't have approved.

Also I completely agree about movie covers, I try to avoid them at all cost. They dreadfully cheapen the authors work

Did Herbert love Delores?

My opinion: no. He was a child, frozen after his childhood love Annabel died. He never progressed past this, and his wanting Delores was nothing more than selfish, infantile lust.
