I'm 90% sure it will work. If by a 10% chance it doesn't an she goes mad, don't worry, that's free sex for you.

Anyway, bring your girlfriend back to the 20th century. Kafka -remember to tell her- wrote standing on the shoulders of giants, it's obvious that Kafka read Ovid's Metamorphosis along other hundred of classics. So reading him you're reading hundred of years of knowledge. Go for it, man.

You (english speakers) lack of a good culture of translations.

Ironically, rest of the world's languages have better translators because of the vast amount of english literature we have to deal with.

English is not my mother language, and I'm not even russian, but I've read english Dostoievski for the sake of it (Constance Garnett trad.) and it was horrible.

ITT: Girls who are interesting/intelligent/read. Goes without saying, but particularly girls that read

Where to find them, how to get them, success stories, stories of woe.

Hey /lit/. We started a small writing group on Scribophile a few months ago. The group has weekly meetings all day on Friday, where we discuss how our writing went for the week. The sites we use are:

Scribophile Group: http://www.scribophile.com/groups/lit/
-> Check for October Meetings Thread

IRC Link: http://www.mibbit.com/#/lit/writers@irc.rizon.net

Use the meeting as a way to show what you've been working on to other people and get feedback from them. Every other day is general /lit/ discussion. You can talk about the book you're reading or what you're working on. The irc channel is laid back so as long as it's on topic you should be fine.

If you're interested, stop by any day. If not, hide the thread.
