If my long term goal is to be able to read and somewhat understand or get something out of Finnegans Wake, what should I read before I start getting close to that.
Obviously Ulysses and all Joyce's other works, but there's a whole lot of other groundwork that is needed to start to get the references (not just for the Wake but for Ulysses too)
What are the essential background to have - the western canon generally?
