One of the attributes of the soul is rationality and it must be trained in order for it to rule over your physical appetites, so you may ascend to the realm of being or of the forms, having been freed from wasting time and energy over base things. The sort of discursive reasoning both geometry and logic force you to do trains you to leave behind the lesser physical desires while you work on abstract things in your mental world. You must get into this habit. "Abeunt studia in mores," or pursuits become habits.

No. Good God no. Read philosophy to improve your mind. Think, question, and then read more. Philosophy is love of wisdom, not wisdom.

Read, read, read, read, and read. The only writing you should be doing is note taking. You are not an academic philosopher, you are not the next Heidegger. If you waste time writing your tedious, half-baked ideas will have undoubtedly been anticipated and refuted centuries ago. All that time wasted when you could've been learning and reading!

Reading will enlighten you.
