What is it?

Do you want to be a writer?
Do you have an ultimate goal to do with reading?

Is it just a hobby for you?

What is your literary goal?
Hell, what is your life goal?

Alright, /lit/. I leave in three hours for Italy. I am going there to write my book. What book should I take as a companion for the long ass flight?

What would you recommend?

What creates the gravity around a certain lifestyle in literature? The appeal of the rich, the appeal of the poor? What is it that writers and artists do to romanticize a demographic? Is it the time period? Writers like Fitzgerald and Hemingway brought darkness to the wealthy. Steinbeck added imagery to the broken farmers of the Dust Bowl. Bukowski put across the mundane ordinary work of a man in Post Office and put forth how filthy lifestyles can be full of life while the ordinary 'exciting' lives are usually thought of by public by what they see on sitcoms. What appeals us to recognize life? These books written side by side many others full of adventure and heroic sacrifice. Is life actually interesting or is it imagined by authors as such? What do you think?
