I write a thematically driven loose fantasy story. I said thematically driven because the entirety of the book focuses on the topic of control and how various parties struggle and use whatever means to gain control while not giving any to their opposition. Loose fantasy because the world building takes a backseat and the world's rules are not as important as the themes presented and the characters acting. That being said, it's not a fully fleshed out fantasy world, but it's more about what's actually happening in this setting. Still, I try to have as many original ideas in it as I can.
The main character is a product of eugenics and his/her/its (it's an asexual sterile creature only vaguely resembling a human) purpose is solely to allow the continuation of a certain industry that plays a vital role in the story and world as a whole. The main conflict is about how the protagonist, and indeed most of the people living in this world, really have no control or agency over their own lives and even the slightest sliver of control is ultimately serving other purposes, as revealed in the end.
It's really a philosophical work more than it is a fantasy story although it's taken place in a wholly fantasy setting.
